WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider)

The Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) is an integrated Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) of connecting customers to the Internet. High-speed wireless data links are used to provide Internet access on a point-to-point and point-to-multipoint basis, for companies, organizations, schools, universities Town and other institutions having Local Area Networks (LAN).

In recent years, public perception of wireless Internet access continues to grow. This brings both opportunities and challenges to Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs). For WISPs, the demand for high-speed Internet access deals with how to find faster, easier and more cost-efficient solutions to reach the most possible customers, especially to reach high growth markets such as SMBs, SOHOs and residences.

Problems of WISPs

Short range for Last-Mile wireless delivery

The customers are usually located within radius 1 to 10km radius around the central site. Normal customer premise equipment (CPE) cannot achieve that range.

Low speed data links

Most CPEs is 802.11a/g standard with maximum 54Mbps, but the real TCP/IP throughput is usually less than 10Mbps because of various condition of weathers, installations and mostly the same frequency interference.

High costs of basestations and CPEs

In order to build a stable and robust network, WISPs need to pay more for the weatherproof materials, upgraded hardware components and high gain antennas.

Lack of central management

Most CPEs cannot be unified managed by the operator. When problems occur, the engineer must come over to the customer house and help to solve the problem.

Difficult installation

Most devices of ISP level are not easy to install. There are too many mounting kits and need professional tools to finish the deployment. After that, the network tuning work such antenna alignment also cost a lot of time.

Typical Solution for WISPs

Our wireless basestation features MRF smart antenna and beamforming technology, which could significantly increase the wireless coverage density of the active customer areas. Besides that, the basestation is easy to deploy with omni or directional antennas attached without complex installation steps. Our wireless CPE features high transmit power and high gain dual-polarized antenna, which is a cost effective solution to achieve high bandwidth connection within 10kms.
